A2 Hosting Review - UPDATED Feb. 2019
A2 Hosting, which was initially called Iniquinet, was founded in 2001 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As the company grew, so did its customer base and by the time they changed their name to A2 in 2003, they were no longer a small startup with just a few clients. Today, A2 hosting is an award-winning web hosting company that offers a full range of hosting services, from shared hosting to dedicated and cloud servers, as well as reseller and VPS. Read this A2 Hosting review to find out what the company offers its users.
- SSD comes with all hosting plans.
- You can choose to host your site on a TurboServer for up to 20x faster loading times.
- You get advanced protection from hacking and malware, regardless of your plan.
- You can choose between data centers on three continents for even faster serving times.
- If you need to transfer your site, free site migration is included in most hosting plans.
A2 boasts the best possible speeds thanks to their TurboServer option, which increases speeds up to 20 times. The company also provides free website migration and has a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Another impressive feature is the “anytime” money back guarantee, which is a rarity in the web hosting industry.
They also offer unlimited hosting with certain plans (disk space, data transfer, and websites), as well as access to some of the most popular applications, such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, shopping cart for basic online stores, private SSL certificate (they charge an extra fee), cPanel control panel, 4 PHP versions, unlimited MySQL databases, SSH access, Python, Ruby on Rails, PERL, and Apache 2.2. There is also the Softaculous app installer with over 300 apps.
Plans & Prices
The prices of A2 hosting plans are average – the plans with the lowest prices are affordable and come with a decent set of features whereas the more advanced plans are obviously more expensive. There might be cheaper hosting options out there, but we have to say that A2’s prices make a lot of sense in terms of value for money.
Shared hosting is offered in three plans, including Lite, designed for hosting a single, light-traffic website; Swift, which is ideal for businesses looking to host multiple websites; and Turbo, which is perfect for users looking to get an additional performance boost. You can choose between Linux or Windows servers, but keep in mind that although the prices vary based on the OS you choose, the plan features are the same.
- Lite: Linux $3.92/month, Windows $4.9/month – 1 website, 5 databases.
- Swift: Linux $4.90/month, Windows $5.88/month – unlimited websites, unlimited databases.
- Turbo: Linux $9.31/month, Windows $10.78/month – unlimited websites, unlimited databases, TurboServer, and A2 Site Accelerator.
For all of you looking to get a more flexible working environment with greater speeds at reasonable prices, A2 Hosting cloud solutions might be the perfect fit. The cheapest cloud hosting plan, which is called Start, costs $15 and includes 512MB RAM and 10GB storage and the most expensive plan costs $25 and includes 1GB RAM and 25GB storage. All plans include unlimited inbound transfer, 2 cores, and 600 MHz CPU speed.
As for VPS hosting, A2 offers unmanaged servers, managed servers, and managed servers with root access.
Unmanaged servers start at $5 and include 1 core, 20GB storage, 2TB transfer, 512MB RAM, and free SSD. The most expensive unmanaged server costs $15 per month and includes 50GB storage, 4 cores, 2TB transfer, 1GB RAM, and free SSD.
Managed servers are, logically, more expensive and start at $32.99 (4GB RAM, 75GB storage, 2TB transfer, free SSD, and free cPanel) and go up to $65.99 (8GB RAM, 150GB storage, 4TB transfer, free SSD, and cPanel).
With dedicated hosting, you can also choose between managed and unmanaged servers. Unmanaged servers start at $99.59 for the cheapest plan, which includes 8GB RAM and up, 2x500GB storage and up, and transfer from 10TB and up. The most expensive unmanaged server costs $248.99 with 16GB RAM and up, storage from 2x1000GB and up, and transfer from 20TB and up. As for managed servers, the cheapest plan costs $141.09 (includes the same features as the cheapest unmanaged server, plus free cPanel) and the most expensive one costs $290.49.
Reseller hosting is offered in four plans: the Bronze plan costs $13.19 and includes 30GB storage, 400GB transfer, and 40 accounts, the Silver plan costs $18.47 and comes with 75GB storage, 600GB transfer, and 60 accounts, the Gold plan costs $24.41 and comes with 150 GB storage, 1000GB transfer, and 80 accounts, and the Platinum plan costs $40.91 and includes 200GB storage, 2000GB transfer, and 100 accounts.
All plans come with free SSD, WHM control panel, and free eNom Reseller Account.
Customer & Technical Support
The A2 support page includes a knowledge base, blog, service bulletins, and support ticket system. There is also live chat and a toll-free phone number for US customers. A2 calls its support staff the “Guru Crew” since it exclusively consists of developers. Support is located in the United States, they work 24/7 and, as part of the company’s green strategy, they work from home. A2 customer support has a very good reputation thanks to very short response times, a very low number of complaints, and extremely helpful staff.
As already stated in this A2 Hosting review, this host offers an unprecedented anytime money back guarantee. While other hosting providers offer 30- or 60-day guarantees, A2 really goes out of its way to make sure that even those customers who are unsatisfied with the service end up satisfied with the way they do business.
So, if you would like to cancel your plan, you can receive a full refund if you do it within 30 days of purchase. However, you can also cancel anytime after the initial 30-day period and you will get a pro-rated refund of unused service.
